Cabinet_jewelry

Cabinet hardware is akin to the finishing touches on an outfit. It is the jewelry that really catches the eye in a kitchen. I’m not a big jewelry person. I only wear my wedding rings on a daily basis. And I have necklaces and bracelets for the days that I actually change out of my work clothes. But, I’ve never been the type of gal to go ga ga over a diamond.

However, I found myself getting starry-eyed while trying to choose our kitchen hardware. I felt like a kid in a candy store because there were so many choices (and yet so little time.) This week I learned that our cabinets will be arriving at the end of the month. And my designer (who really needs to be my personal assistant) gently asked me, “Have you ordered your cabinet hardware yet?” Gulp…umm no. What I wanted to say was, “Seriously? This is the least of my worries! I need to get the walls finished and a floor in our kitchen before I can even think about bling!” That’s when it dawned on me, a Handy Gal can’t do everything! Especially when it comes to jewelry (it’s just not my strong suit.)

With that in mind, I’m asking for your help. Yes, that means you Ms. “I’m Sitting Here at My Computer Drinking My Coffee While I Watch Pretty Handy Girl’s Kitchen Renovation Updates”! And you may be thinking, heck no, I don’t have time to help her. Here’s the deal, I’m going to show you some of my choices from D. Lawless and you help me choose by leaving me a comment below. Also, did you know that D. Lawless sells a lot more than cabinet hardware?

Knobs and pulls are the least of their offerings! Corbels, hinges, switch plates, drawer slides, hooks, pie safe punched tin, casters, shelf brackets, space savers and much more!

To help (or further muddy) the decision making process, I’ve put together this mood board with some of the other materials and fixtures that I’m using in the kitchen.

Choice C:

Choice E:

Not to sway your decision, but will you look at that glass knob!

cut_glass_knob_closeup

I think I just fell in love with a diamond. It would make a beautiful earring, don’t you think?

big_diamond_earring

And that bronze cup pull, it just sings “tug me.” Gahhhhhh! Is it okay to mix styles? I seriously need your help on this decision.

close_up_rubbed_bronze_pull

Can I help it if I look at hardware and immediately think jewelry? Didn’t you see a necklace pendant, too?

Focus! Here is the task at hand. Help me choose hardware by leaving me a comment below. Feel free to give me some other suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help with this decision. I look forward to reading your comments!

I actually had a similar decision with the color/style of the pulls in my kitchen( I didn’t think of using the glass knobs, but I could still change!) Definitely the antique pewter with the glass. Especially if the faucet is the dark color. I am just too much of a southern gal I guess, but I want everything to at least coordinate if not match. You can’t miss with any of these. All good choices. But, I’m going with D. I can see why you like the glass pull. Yes, it’s pretty, but I have some emotional baggage attached to it. Partly from living in various old houses with glass doorknobs that always said “old old old” to me, but not in cool vintage way. And I have a cheesy version of this on the vanity door directly across from my…..toilet. Which has nothing to do with you so go ahead and choose whatever you like. But what will it look like after many sticky hands have grabbed it? Then again, it will be easier to clean then the cup pull, which is a very practical consideration to keep in mind. But with 4 cup pulls, you seem to be leaning in that direction. Why can I never comment in four words like other women?

I got a new bronze with red highlites faucet in my guess bath and ended up getting puls to match that for the cabinets in that bath. I am redoing 4 pieces of furniture for my master bedroom and purchased my knobs and pulls for D. Lawless because they had what I wanted and their price was the best. I’d dearly love to win that gift certificate.

Hands down option EEEEEE! sparkle in the kitchen is Good. I like C too but think that the darker cup pull offers to much contrast. I spent the most money in my kitchen per square inch on my knobs….recycled glass and lead free pewter in multiple shades of green. I paired up shades on paired cabinets but used 5 different shades in kitchen total. Lighter greens on ivory top cabs, deeper olives and blue greens on sage base cabinets. LLOVVEE them. My counters are Oasis blue marble…which is ivory with blue gray veining…so i obviously loved your mood board! Good luck, love watching the progress.

Love your choices – I think I some I like for my cabinets! It would probably be cheating to say you couldn’t go wrong with any of those choices, wouldn’t it? 🙂 To go with you darker faucet and the metal in the hanging pendant light, I like the combination of the bronze w/ copper highlight pull with the French Lac venetian knobs. I love the glass knobs, but the concern in MY kitchen with those, as they have hollow opening, would be dirt and “fuzzies” that would require cleaning out the knob centers on regular basis (think grease, steam, etc. trapping dust). They look like they might be a pain to clean. The Venetian Lace add a little bling with their etchings without the dirt trapping. Good luck on choosing!

I am telling you this as if… GIRLFRIEND to GIRLFRIEND (which means my honest opinion and not what you want to hear)

After studying your “mood” board, I realized something is throwing me off!
The marble is…. or is it the pendent light!

Yikes, (to me) the marble has to go or the pendent light has to match the faucet metal using a clear glass shade. To me, the two do not work together as they are now. I’m not sure where the marble is going or how much of it is being used, but (to me) it does not go with the browns in your pendent lighting (the glass shade particularly)!

I say NO NO NO to the crystal knobs in this case! Firstly, because they do not go with your pendent lighting glass. Secondly, because its in a kitchen (hard to keep clean). Thirdly, because (again, only to me) they say old fashion.

You need pulls that will tie together your faucet metal and pendent metal, since they do not match. In which case…. I SAY B!!! (HOWEVER… if the knob in selection “A”, matches the pull in “B”, I would choose “A” knob over “B” knob)

    Just my honest opinion, Girlfriend!
Love what you do, keep up the great work!!

I’m painting my kitchen cabinets soon and I was going to just give the pulls and knobs I have a good cleaning. The pulls are bronze looking (they were already here) and I like them; but you gave me a great idea with those glass knobs. We live in an older home and some of our built ins have glass knobs too. Good luck with your choices. I love your blog!

I LOVE E…but I wonder how hard they would be to keep looking nice and clean in a kitchen. Something to think about. I may have to snag some for my office, though!

As I was looking at each selection, I though ” I would put that glass knob with the bronze/ copper pulls… Then I saw choice E and laughed!! Have you ever gotten something caught on those metal knobs? Maybe I am a clutz but I even caught my watch chain on one once! Make sure the pulls go with the other metals you are choosing. My vote is E!

E is my choice. For me the metal needs to be darker to coordinate with yhe metal in the facet and the light fixtures.

I vote for C – the antique pewter really compliments the dark bronze of the faucet, and I love that clear glass knob. I think that mixing the two makes the kitchen look like it evolved over time – not too matchy. Good luck with the rest of the renovation – your mood board is beautiful – especially the white diamond material!!

I love the pull in the bottom right of the photo, the black insert wrapped in silver-ish metal, but can’t find it on their web site.

I’m torn between choice C and E. The glass knobs are a definite in my book. And they’re octagons! We’re refacing our cabinets this spring and I also need to go shopping for some kitchen bling 🙂 I’ll have to go check out D. Lawless now!

Decisions, decisions! I’m thinking E, with a second choice of A. Love all of your ideas. I’m excited for you!

I have to say Choice B. I know you love the glass door knobs, but I think they would be better served on an “antique buffet” – in the color of the flooring in the kitchen…a nice golden oak! I know you love Choice E, but I think B would really pull together the colors of the pendant lights and the cork flooring. Thanks for the opportunity! Good luck!

I love the copper best – seems like it would go with about any color choice downroad. Great with warm or cool colors. Of course, so would that gorgeous glass knob, although it makes the kitchen more ‘retro’, IMHO.

My choice would be “B” the Bronze with Copper Highlights Cup Pull and Bronze with Copper Highlights Knob. It better matches the finish of the kitchen faucet and will tie the finishes together. I love the glass knobs and would use the combination of the glass and Bronze/Copper hardware if the decor was of an eclectic flavor and yours seems more of a traditional and elegant decor. Your choice of textures and surfaces are brilliant and have given me some great ideas for my own kitchen remodeling. What a mess it’s been but I can’t wait till it’s finished because I’m doing it myself with the help of great friends!

I’m all for mixing styles. I love that glass knob. My favorite pull is Option A, the copper with screw heads. You have a tough, yet fun decision ahead of you.

I would totally do the combo. I just finally put cabinet hardware on my kitchen cabinets & wanted to put antique glass knobs, but it just didn’t work with all of the modern elements of our new build. I think the glass & copper pulls look gorgeous with the other materials picked!

I just wanted to add this morning, after a nice little crash on my pc last p.m. that I think you should choose the first ones, the French Venetian Bronze Knob . Here is what I would do different, it is not in the hardware choice but the cabinets themselves. I think it would pick up some sparkle by doing a very light metalic glaze , dry brushing just around the inside box of your cupboard doors. That is what would bring together the great shine off the new lighting. Sometimes it is the smallest detail that pulls the room together, but that is just my opinion. Great choices otherwise, keep up the good work.
    Sincerely, Becky
